If you are planning on laying vinyl flooring the first thing you need to do is calculate how much you need to buy. To work this out, measure the longest length of the floor and the longest width. Then multiply the 2 figures together. Next pull up the old flooring unless it is too difficult to remove, in which case you will need to lay the new floor on top of it. You will be able to cover up any imperfections with an area rug runner or similar although, on the whole, the old floor will need to create a smooth surface otherwise the vinyl will wear unevenly and tear.
