He has certainly produced some of the world’s most famous and identifiable works. The painting, Still Life: Japanese Vase with Roses and Anemones, was painted at the very end of his life when he lived in Auvers-sur-Oise, near Paris . Although many of his best known and best loved works were produced during this period, his painting may have been starting to take a different direction. His color palette is softened slightly, with the use of tonal pigments as well as his trademark strong colors.
